NAN Silox GreenMet Pvt Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between India’s NAN GreenMet and Belgium-based Silox Group, has appointed Vijay Pasupathy as Chief Executive Officer as it moves ahead with its lithium-ion battery recycling and critical metals recovery project at Naidupeta, Andhra Pradesh.
The company has received Consent to Establish (CTE) and is preparing for groundbreaking at the proposed facility, which involves an initial investment of ₹1,400 crore. It is also planning additional investments to expand into the production of precursor cathode active materials (pCAM) and cathode active materials (CAM), while pursuing technology partnerships with international companies.
Mr Pasupathy brings more than two decades of experience in industrial operations, strategy and business development. He previously served as Executive Vice President at Epsilon Advanced Materials and held senior positions at Orbia and EY. In his new role, he will oversee project execution at Naidupeta and lead the company’s planned expansion into advanced cathode materials.
To support the project, the company has appointed Rakesh Patel as Chief Operating Officer, Harish Aich as Chief Technology Officer, M Sri Rama Krishna Murthy as Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Partha Reddy as Chief Supply Chain Officer and Alisha Abbas as Head of Human Resources. The leadership team brings experience in metallurgy, mineral processing and large-scale industrial operations from organisations including Hindalco, Shell, ExxonMobil, Adani’s Kutch Copper and Hyundai.
The Naidupeta facility is planned to have an ultimate shredding capacity of 40,000 tonnes per annum and hydrometallurgical processing capacity of 20,000 tonnes per annum. The capacities will be developed in phases. Its processing technology will recover critical metals and produce high-purity, battery-grade salts for use in downstream pCAM and CAM manufacturing.
Naivedya Agarwal, Director and Co-founder of NAN GreenMet, said the appointment of Pasupathy and the experienced operational team would support the next stage of the company’s development. He added that expanding into cathode materials would allow recovered critical minerals to be processed further and reused in battery manufacturing in India.
Jean-Christophe Bogaert, Chairman of Silox Group, said the company’s hydrometallurgical expertise would support industrial execution at Naidupeta and future discussions on technology partnerships for pCAM and CAM production. India’s battery manufacturing industry is expanding, but the country continues to depend on overseas suppliers for processed cathode materials. By connecting battery recycling with downstream materials production, NAN. Silox GreenMet aims to strengthen domestic supply chains, improve recovery of valuable metals and reduce reliance on imported battery materials.
