For decade’s, construction, automobile and aircraft industry were facing difficulties with mould and its serious health risks, and to restrain it, we do not only require proper ventilation technique but also use anti-mould components. Hence, Igus pilot studied its materials for mould growth. The results as expected: all plain bearings are immune to fungi & bacteria. The growth of mould in ventilation systems lead to diffusion of the mould spores in air tight cabins, rooms, vehicles, and buildings and cause health issues related to respiratory system. To prevent the risk, experts and designers select the machine components that are mould free. Top quality and high-performance plastics from Igus are such materials. In a laboratory, seven Iglidur materials were tested for the effect of micro-organisms in accordance with DIN EN ISA 846 method A. Purpose was to check the resistance of the components to fungi & bacteria, because plastics could be a source of nutrition for micro-organisms and testing material could react to it. Therefore, the test was conducted by placing the bearings in a special culture for four weeks at 29 degree Celsius. The result: no changes found on the tested materials, nor were there any thin coatings.
