Motul India, a leading automotive lubricant manufacturer, has joined forces with electric two-wheeler brand Zypp Electric to roll out a countrywide training initiative for mechanics. Designed to enhance expertise in electric two-wheeler repair and maintenance, the program aims to certify over 10,000 mechanics across India as EV specialists. The initiative kicked off with a two-day pilot session in Gurugram.
This partnership combines Motul India’s proficiency in automotive maintenance with Zypp Electric’s in-depth knowledge of electric vehicle operations. The goal is to equip mechanics with the skills to handle both traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and emerging EV technologies, keeping them at the forefront of the industry.
The training program integrates theoretical instruction with hands-on experience, focusing on EV electrical systems, diagnostics, and practical troubleshooting. Mechanics who attended the inaugural session reported a significant boost in their repair knowledge, with some noting improvements of up to 50%. Dealer feedback underscored the program’s relevance to the growing EV market.
Nagendra Pai, CEO of Motul India & South Asia, highlighted the broader vision behind the initiative, stating, “This program is more than just upskilling; it’s about opening new growth opportunities for mechanics as the mobility sector evolves into EVs, hydrogen, and advanced battery technologies.”
Akash Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of Zypp Electric, emphasized the importance of grassroots interventions in supporting India’s growing EV ecosystem. “Training mechanics is a crucial step in creating a sustainable EV last-mile delivery network, and this partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to advance the EV landscape in India,” he said.
This collaborative effort by Motul India and Zypp Electric marks a pivotal step in bridging the skills gap in India’s rapidly changing automotive sector. By equipping mechanics to handle both ICE and EV vehicles, the program ensures they stay relevant and competitive in the evolving market.
