Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SMIL) has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Samvardhana Motherson Automotive Systems Group B.V. (SMRP B.V.), will inject an additional $5-7 million into REE Automotive Ltd. According to a regulatory filing, this investment will allow SMRP B.V. to maintain its current ownership stake in REE Automotive as the company raises fresh capital to commercialize its order book. Currently, SMRP B.V. holds an 18.6% stake in REE Automotive’s ordinary shares (equivalent to 11% on a fully diluted basis) following a transaction completed in September 2024.
Founded in 1975 and headquartered in Noida, India, Motherson has evolved from a small wire manufacturing unit into a leading global supplier of automotive components. With operations across 40 countries, the company produces wiring harnesses, mirrors, door trims, lighting systems, and polymer parts for major automakers worldwide.
Despite cyclical trends in the automotive industry, Motherson has consistently expanded its revenue base and remains committed to innovation and sustainability through its dedicated R&D facilities. REE Automotive, based in Israel, is an electric mobility company specializing in modular vehicle platforms. It is known for its REEcorner technology, which integrates critical components—steering, braking, suspension, and powertrain—into the wheel arches.
REE’s scalable REEboard platform enables custom vehicle configurations, allowing manufacturers to adapt designs to specific operational needs. The company’s “by-wire” system for steering, braking, and drive functions aims to improve efficiency and maneuverability. Additionally, the modular architecture is built to support various powertrains, including battery-electric and fuel-cell electric variants. Through this additional investment, Motherson strengthens its position in the electric mobility sector, reinforcing its strategic partnership with REE Automotive.
