Indian auto supplier Motherson has invested $15 million in Ree Automotive as part of a $45 million funding round, with the remaining funds coming from major investors such as M&G Investment and Varana Capital.
With an annual revenue of $17.2 billion, Motherson is one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers. As part of this partnership, Motherson will handle supply chain management and leverage its manufacturing capabilities to produce components, integrate modules, and assemble Ree’s innovative Corner modules. These efforts will support the production of Ree’s P7 electric vans, including assembly operations in the U.S.
Ree Automotive’s P7-B model, introduced two years ago, is a 6.4-ton electric van with a 2-ton payload. It delivers up to 400 kW of power and offers a range of 240 kilometers. Its high performance is attributed to the unique design of Ree’s Corner modules, which house key components like the chassis, steering, power electronics, and 100 kW motors.
Each of the van’s four corners contains a module, enabling all-wheel steering and a tight six-meter turning radius. Through this collaboration, Ree aims to grow its customer base, secure new orders, boost profit margins, and expand its patent portfolio.
Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are thrilled to announce this long-term agreement with Ree to accelerate its industrialization. We have been impressed by Ree’s technology and look forward to helping them grow by managing their supply chain and utilizing our manufacturing expertise. This partnership also supports Motherson’s goal of diversifying and increasing vehicle content.”
Daniel Barel, co-founder and CEO of Ree, also shared his optimism: “We’re excited to partner with Motherson, whose global presence and manufacturing expertise will help us overcome challenges and push the transition to electrification and carbon neutrality. This collaboration is a perfect fit, benefiting our customers and investors while advancing the industry.”
