Mitsubishi Electric India, in partnership with Mitsubishi Elevator India, began the Channappannahalli Lake rejuvenation project in 2021, located near its elevator manufacturing unit. This CSR initiative aimed to restore the lake and improve its surrounding environment.
The project involved several key actions: desilting the lakebed, repairing sluice gates, restoring inlets and outlets, implementing vetiver turfing, creating an elevated walkway, and establishing a Miyawaki forest plantation. Additionally, the team worked on wetland creation, civil and maintenance work, community space development, stormwater drainage construction, and enhancing the water quality. The project also included building a culvert, stone revetment, protective fencing, an island, solar-cum-wind lights, benches, a children’s play area, and an open-air gym. By 2024, these efforts benefited thousands of people in the surrounding areas.
The formal handover event for the completed project took place at Channappannahalli Lake in Vemagal, near Bengaluru, with key representatives from Mitsubishi Electric India, Mitsubishi Elevator India, the Deputy Commissioner of Kolar, District Industrial Center Head, and the Vemagal Village Panchayat-CEO in attendance. The ceremony included the laying of a foundation stone and ribbon-cutting by the delegates.
