The Ministry of Defence has announced a new list of 346 items to boost self-reliance in defence and reduce imports by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs). This is the fifth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), and it includes important parts and materials worth ₹1,048 crore that will be sourced only from Indian companies.

The items will be available on the Srijan portal, which was launched in 2020. This portal allows DPSUs and Service Headquarters to collaborate with Indian industries, including small businesses and startups, for local production.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” there have been significant advancements in local defence manufacturing. The Defence Ministry aims to increase domestic production, leading to less reliance on imports and more investment in the defence sector.

Companies like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and others will be involved in producing these items. They are now inviting proposals on their websites, and interested industries are encouraged to participate.

Previously, four other PILs with 4,666 items were released, and 2,972 items worth ₹3,400 crore have already been produced locally. In total, over 36,000 defence items have been offered for local production, with more than 12,300 items successfully indigenised in the last three years. This effort has resulted in orders worth ₹7,572 crore to domestic suppliers.
