Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, officially launched MRPL’s new product, Toluene, during his visit to the refinery. He also held discussions with senior MRPL officials during the visit.
With a production capacity of 40 TMT annually, MRPL’s Toluene facility highlights India’s progress towards self-reliance and enhancing its competitive edge in the global petrochemical market. Toluene, a versatile aromatic hydrocarbon, is widely used in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, paints, and defense.
While India’s annual Toluene demand is around 650 TMT, domestic production is only about 160 TMT. MRPL’s contribution of 40 TMT per year will significantly reduce the import gap, saving approximately $3 million in foreign exchange annually. This move marks a significant step in reducing India’s reliance on imports and supports the country’s industrial and economic growth, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
