Minda Instruments Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Minda Corporation and part of Spark Minda Group, has received approval under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) to manufacture display module sub-assemblies in India. The approval is part of the latest batch of 31 proposals cleared by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on August 17.
The approval marks an important step towards strengthening domestic manufacturing of automotive electronics and reducing dependence on imported display components. Minda Instruments plans to establish a greenfield facility for TFT display module assembly as part of its backward integration strategy.
The company currently supplies instrument clusters and other automotive electronic products to leading vehicle manufacturers. With the new facility, Minda Instruments will be able to manufacture display modules within India, creating a more integrated supply chain for its automotive electronics business.
Aakash Minda, Executive Director, Minda Corporation Ltd., said the approval reflects the government’s confidence in the company’s engineering capabilities. He added that bringing display manufacturing to India is a natural extension of the company’s work in automotive electronics and will contribute to building the country’s capabilities in advanced electronics manufacturing.
Automotive displays have traditionally depended significantly on imports. Local production is expected to help reduce supply-chain dependence, improve sourcing flexibility and provide greater resilience against disruptions linked to component shortages and international logistics.
The proposed facility will also have the ability to serve external customers, allowing Minda Instruments to participate more widely in the automotive display and electronics market. The investment is expected to strengthen the company’s position in a segment that is becoming increasingly important as vehicles adopt larger displays, connected features and software-driven functions.
The latest ECMS approvals have taken the total number of approved projects under the scheme to 106. The August 17 tranche involves projected investments of around ₹7,877 crore and is expected to create 9,588 direct employment opportunities. Since the launch of ECMS, approved investments have reached approximately ₹69,548 crore across 15 states. For Minda Corporation, the approval builds on its established presence in automotive electronics and supports its strategy of developing advanced technologies for next-generation mobility.
