Microchip Launches SA15-28 DC-DC Converter and SF100-28 EMI Filter to Expand Space-Grade Power Solutions

manufacturing-news

Microchip Technology Inc, a leader in embedded control solutions, has expanded its space-qualified power product lineup with the introduction of the SA15-28 radiation-hardened DC-DC converter and the SF100-28 EMI filter. These components are designed to meet MIL-STD-461 specifications and offer robust performance for demanding satellite and aerospace applications.

The SA15-28 is a 15-watt, standard, isolated DC-DC power converter that features a non-hybrid construction for increased reliability and flexibility. Paired with the SF100-28 EMI filter, this solution is designed to operate from a 28V satellite bus in extreme environmental conditions, making it well-suited for space missions that require high performance and durability.

The converter includes 5V triple outputs that are ideal for powering point-of-load converters, FPGAs, and microprocessors. It is compact, with a form factor of approximately 1.68 cubic inches and a weight of just 60 grams, helping to optimize size, weight, and power (SWaP) for spacecraft systems. Customized voltage outputs can also be provided based on project needs.

According to Leon Gross, Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s High-Reliability and RF Division, “With the SA15-28 and SF100-28, customers can develop flexible, scalable power systems for space, supported by proven, off-the-shelf solutions.”

The SF100-28 EMI filter supports power systems up to 100W and is fully compatible with Microchip’s existing SA50 series converters and the SF200 EMI filter, providing a seamless upgrade path and integration flexibility.

Engineered for harsh conditions, the SA15-28 supports a wide temperature range of −55°C to +125°C and offers radiation tolerance up to 100 krad Total Ionizing Dose (TID), ensuring dependable performance in space environments.

Microchip’s scalable approach enables design teams to transition from COTS to space-qualified and radiation-hardened systems more efficiently, reducing design and manufacturing time. The SA15-28 is supported by in-depth analysis tools, including worst-case and electrical stress evaluations.

The SA15-28 DC-DC converter and SF100-28 EMI filter are available for immediate purchase through Microchip’s sales channels and authorized global distributors. For more details, visit Microchip’s official website or contact your regional representative.
