Microchip Technology has introduced its latest LAN9645xF and LAN9645xS Gigabit Ethernet switches, designed to meet the rigorous demands of modern industrial networks. With multi-port flexibility and robust feature options, these devices deliver scalable, high-speed connectivity and advanced real-time communication for mission-critical applications.

The LAN9645xF/S family is offered in 5-, 7-, and 9-port configurations with up to five integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T PHYs. They can function as stand-alone unmanaged switches or operate in managed mode using Linux® Distributed Switch Architecture (DSA), giving designers maximum control over system architecture.

The LAN9645xF variant includes advanced Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Audio Video Bridging (AVB) capabilities, along with hardware-assisted redundancy compliant with IEC 62439-3 standards for Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) and High-availability Seamless Redundancy (HSR). These features enable zero-packet-loss performance during network faults, making it ideal for applications requiring deterministic communication. The LAN9645xS variant provides cost-efficient standard Ethernet switching with selective Precision Time Protocol (PTP) support for unmanaged systems.

“Our LAN9645xF/S solutions integrate multiple functions into a single device, reducing system cost while simplifying implementation of TSN and redundancy in industrial networks,” said Charlie Forni, Corporate Vice President, Networking and Communications Business Unit, Microchip Technology. “We provide comprehensive design support and tools to help customers deploy robust, future-ready Ethernet networks.”

The LAN9645xF/S devices work seamlessly with Microchip’s complete networking ecosystem — including MCUs, memory, and timing solutions — to build reliable and scalable networks for industrial, aerospace, data center, and energy applications. Development support includes the LAN96459 EDS2 Daughter Card (EV14H52A) for use with Curiosity Evaluation Boards and the LAN96459 Unmanaged Base Board (EV03E14A) for quick demonstrations.
