Growing demands from artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications are driving the need for power solutions that deliver high efficiency, dependability, and easy scalability. Addressing these requirements, Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has launched the MCPF1525 Power Module, a highly integrated 16V input buck converter capable of supplying 25A per module, with current scaling up to 200A through stacking. The module integrates programmable PMBus™ and I²C interfaces, enabling precise control and monitoring while supporting the latest PCIe® switches and compute-intensive MPU platforms used in AI-driven data centers.
The MCPF1525 features a vertical package architecture designed to maximize PCB utilization. Compared to conventional designs, this approach can reduce board area by up to 40 percent, making it well suited for space-limited server and accelerator platforms. Measuring approximately 6.8 mm × 7.65 mm × 3.82 mm, the module delivers high power density without compromising layout flexibility.
To support robust operation, the device incorporates comprehensive diagnostic and protection features accessible via PMBus™, including over-temperature, over-current, and over-voltage monitoring. Its thermally optimized package supports junction temperatures ranging from –40°C to +125°C, ensuring stable performance across demanding environments. An integrated EEPROM allows designers to set and retain default power-up configurations.
“By combining the MCPF1525 with Microchip’s broader portfolio—including PCIe® Switchtec™ devices, FPGAs, MPUs, and Flashtec® NVMe® controllers—we help customers build scalable, reliable, and energy-efficient platforms for data center and industrial computing,” said Rudy Jaramillo, Vice President, Analog Power and Interface Division, Microchip Technology. “This level of system integration simplifies design, reduces risk, and accelerates development timelines.”
The module also incorporates a custom-designed inductor that minimizes conducted and radiated noise, supporting signal integrity and reliable data transfer in high-speed computing environments while reducing power losses caused by retransmissions. Microchip offers an extensive range of DC-DC power modules supporting input voltages from 5.5V to 70V, available in compact, rugged, and thermally enhanced packages engineered for high power density applications.
