Metso has acquired MRA Automation (Multiskilled Resources Australia Pty Ltd), a privately held engineering company headquartered in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. MRA Automation provides engineering, automation, and software solutions for bulk material handling operations and is widely recognized for its work with ports and terminal operators globally.
The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. The acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on Metso’s financial results. MRA Automation’s capabilities in automation and digital systems for stockyard and port equipment complement Metso’s electrical and control system expertise, which was expanded through acquisitions completed in 2023.
Commenting on the acquisition, Jonathan Allen, Senior Vice President, Grinding, Bulk, Pyro and Smelting Services at Metso, said the addition of MRA strengthens the company’s bulk and port solutions offering, particularly in the Australian market, while also supporting global growth. He added that MRA’s software platforms and services enhance Metso’s ability to deliver integrated solutions to bulk material handling customers worldwide.
As a result of the transaction, customers will gain access to end-to-end solutions that combine mechanical systems with advanced automation and digital tools, designed to improve operational efficiency, safety, and long-term asset performance. Rodney Devetak, Managing Director of MRA Automation, said the move provides new opportunities for the company’s employees and customers by enabling wider deployment of its technologies within a global organization. Peter McPherson, Director of Engineering at MRA Automation, noted that the acquisition will allow MRA’s smart automation products to be rolled out internationally.
MRA Automation employs approximately 60 specialists and delivers industrial automation solutions for bulk material handling and port operations. Its portfolio includes proprietary smart automation services and Axo33 smart software products.
