Mercedes AMG has announced a reorganization of its motorsport division to prepare for future plans. This includes creating a new subsidiary called Affalterbach Racing GmbH, which will handle all customer sport activities, including the development of the new Mercedes AMG GT3.
Mercedes AMG GmbH also plans to acquire part of its long-time partner HWA AG. Both companies have signed a letter of intent for this acquisition. This reorganization reaffirms AMG’s commitment to GT racing.
Affalterbach Racing GmbH’s first major project will be developing the successor to the successful AMG GT3. The new company will be based in Affalterbach and will work closely with the Mercedes AMG Motorsport team, which will continue to oversee international motorsport activities.
Talks are ongoing with HWA AG to take over the customer motorsport division. Both parties have signed a non-binding agreement and are in the approval phase. The planned integration aims to expand Mercedes AMG Customer Racing, improve international customer service at racetracks, and provide spare parts support in Europe, the U.S., China, and Australia.
HWA AG will continue with its other projects, including the HWA EVO project. This project involves the development, production, and sale of the HWA EVO, a reinterpretation of the iconic Mercedes Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II.
“Motorsport is part of the DNA of Mercedes AMG,” said Michael Schiebe, Chairman of Mercedes AMG GmbH. “We want to continue our success in GT Sport and expand it further. We see a growing interest in GT3 vehicles and are working on a successor model. With Affalterbach Racing GmbH, we will be more flexible and quick in our actions.”
Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes AMG Motorsport, added: “I’m pleased to reaffirm our commitment to customer racing with Affalterbach Racing GmbH. We aim to expand our global GT customer sport program and develop the new GT3 racing car for our international customers.”
