In a significant move to advance rechargeable battery technology, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brandworks Technologies Pvt Ltd, a leader in electronics manufacturing and design. This partnership highlights Brandworks’ position as a key player in technology-driven production and supports India’s goal to become a global hub for high-tech electronics manufacturing.

The MoU focuses on the development of lithium-ion battery technology, essential for powering consumer electronics, electric vehicles, power plants, and data center energy systems. By leveraging Brandworks’ research and development expertise, along with its Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) methods and flexible manufacturing capabilities, this collaboration aims to create high-performance, cost-effective batteries for both domestic and international markets. The initiative aligns with the Indian government’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” campaigns, emphasizing self-reliance and technological independence.

Under the MoU, Brandworks Technologies and MeitY will collaborate on advancing lithium-ion technology by focusing on key areas such as enhancing research and development to create batteries with higher energy density, faster charging, and longer lifespans. This will be achieved through DFMA-driven designs aimed at scalable production. Additionally, the partnership will work to localize supply chains, reducing reliance on imports by collaborating with domestic component suppliers, and promoting eco-friendly manufacturing practices to minimize carbon emissions.

Another major focus of the MoU will be skill development, with plans to train over 500 technicians in advanced battery assembly, agile production techniques, and quality control by 2030. This initiative aims to build a skilled workforce capable of supporting the growing demand for high-performance batteries and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the manufacturing processes.

Building on Brandworks’ experience in power bank manufacturing, the company has already established itself as a leader in efficient lithium-ion solutions. With a 101% year-on-year revenue growth and investments in AI-driven automation, Brandworks is poised to play a significant role in India’s next-generation battery innovation.

Founded in 2017 as a power bank assembly unit, Brandworks has grown into a prominent electronics manufacturer, working with over 40 major Indian electronics brands. Based in a 210,000 sq. ft. facility in Mumbai, the company operates 45 production lines—including 2 Surface Mount Technology (SMT) lines—and delivers over 500,000 units each month. Its product range includes consumer electronics (soundbars, Bluetooth speakers, dashcams), wearable technology (earbuds, body cameras), IoT devices (sound boxes), and mobile accessories, making it a preferred OEM/ODM partner for both national and global brands.

Brandworks’ manufacturing operations are supported by cutting-edge tools such as SAP and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) for end-to-end traceability and efficiency. The company uses its DFMA expertise to optimize product designs for easier assembly, reducing material waste and production costs by 20%. With a dedicated team of over 30 engineers specializing in IoT, AI-driven surveillance systems, and Laura-1 protocol-based devices, Brandworks ensures rapid prototyping and shorter production cycles to help clients adapt quickly to market demands. The company’s proprietary supply chain tool cuts sourcing time by 30%, while partnerships with more than 50 Independent Design Houses (IDHs) provide customized, cost-efficient solutions at the Bill of Materials (BOM) level.

At the heart of Brandworks’ operations is a commitment to social responsibility. The company employs over 1,200 people, with 70% of them being women—many in supervisory and managerial roles—creating a diverse and inclusive workforce. Its focus on local supply chains and skill development ensures compliance with global standards (such as ISO and RoHS), strengthening a robust manufacturing ecosystem that benefits the broader electronics industry.

Nikita Kumawat, Managing Director of Brandworks, commented, “This collaboration with MeitY reflects our commitment to driving innovation. By incorporating DFMA and Agile Manufacturing, we are not only accelerating product development but also ensuring that our lithium-ion solutions are sustainable and globally competitive. Lithium-ion technology is essential to India’s energy future, and our expertise in scalable, high-tech manufacturing will help make world-class battery solutions more accessible.”

Ishwar Kumhar, CEO of Brandworks, added, “Brandworks embodies the spirit of ‘Make in India.’ Our technical expertise, agility, and dedication to quality position us as the ideal partner to help transform India into a global leader in electronics manufacturing.”

Brandworks is planning significant investments in research and development, focusing on solid-state batteries, smart energy storage systems, and further integration of DFMA and agile methodologies to streamline production. The company aims to establish a dedicated battery manufacturing facility by 2030, targeting a monthly production capacity of 1 million units. These efforts will be supported by collaborations with integrated circuit providers and academic institutions to stay at the forefront of global technological advancements.
