Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has been awarded a USD 225.5 million (KWD 69.23 million) contract by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) for the development of a New Gas Sweetening and Sulphur Recovery Facility (NGSF) at the West Kuwait oil fields. The project encompasses the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility, marking another major milestone in MEIL’s growing footprint in the Middle East’s hydrocarbon sector.

According to P Doraiah, Director of MEIL, the project will be executed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, with an option for KOC to acquire the facility in the future. The execution will take place in two distinct stages — the construction phase and the operation and maintenance phase. “We are proud to collaborate with Kuwait Oil Company on this landmark gas processing project,” Mr Doraiah said. “This initiative highlights MEIL’s dedication to creating world-class energy infrastructure that promotes operational excellence and environmental stewardship.”

Located near Booster Station BS-171, the project is scheduled to be completed within 790 days, followed by five years of operation and maintenance under MEIL’s supervision. Once operational, the facility will purify natural gas and remove impurities before dehydration and transfer through KOC’s existing pipeline network to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plant at Mina Ahmadi Refinery for additional processing.

The development of this new plant aligns with Kuwait’s broader commitment to sustainable energy production, cleaner fuels, and reduced environmental emissions. By integrating advanced gas treatment and sulphur recovery technologies, the project is expected to enhance Kuwait’s capacity for safe and efficient hydrocarbon processing while supporting the nation’s long-term energy diversification goals.

With this strategic contract, MEIL reinforces its reputation as a key player in global oil and gas infrastructure. The company is also engaged in setting up Sulphur Recovery Units (SRUs) for the Rajasthan Refinery Project in India and the Mongol Refinery Project in Mongolia, further showcasing its leadership in energy engineering, innovation, and commitment to sustainable industrial growth.
