Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Water Resources, Government of Maharashtra, to develop two major Pumped Storage Hydro Projects with a combined capacity of 4000 MW.

These projects include the Kamod Pumped Storage Project in Nandurbar District and the Ghosla Pumped Storage Project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District. MEIL will execute these projects under the Build-Operate-Maintain (BOM) model, with a total investment of Rs. 21,100 crores and the creation of approximately 2,500 jobs.

The Ghosla project is slated for completion in three and a half years, while the Kamod project will take five years. Both projects, designed as off-stream Pumped Storage Systems, will feature Upper and Lower reservoirs in a closed-loop system to store energy for at least six hours per day.

A powerhouse with reversible pump turbines and generators will be set up between the reservoirs to pump water during non-peak hours and generate electricity during peak demand. The initial water supply will come from existing reservoirs, replenished annually.

These Pumped Storage Projects are vital for energy storage, grid stability, and the integration of renewable energy sources. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, and Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources, Deepak Kapoor, were present at the MoU signing, representing the Maharashtra government. MEIL President R.V.R. Kishore emphasized that these projects will meet the state’s energy requirements while supporting its broader development goals.

MEIL, established in 1989 and headquartered in Hyderabad, is a global conglomerate involved in various sectors including water management, construction, power, and now energy storage solutions. The company is committed to delivering high-quality projects ahead of schedule by leveraging cutting-edge technologies and management expertise.
