Hyderabad-based conglomerate Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has successfully deployed its advanced, fully automated 2000 HP oil drilling rig (C3BR1 NG 2000-5) at ONGC’s Rajahmundry asset in Andhra Pradesh. This marks the third rig of this capacity that MEIL has introduced at the Rajahmundry site, following the deployment of two similar rigs previously.
The newly deployed rig, featuring state-of-the-art automation and hydraulic technology, is capable of drilling up to 6,000 meters in challenging high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. It is distinguished by its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and enhanced safety features, setting it apart from traditional rigs.
This rig is part of a broader initiative under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ programs, tied to a ₹6,000 crore order for oil drilling rigs from ONGC. MEIL is the first private company in India to design and manufacture such advanced rigs domestically, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy sector.
The deployment ceremony was attended by key representatives from MEIL and its subsidiary Drillmec, along with ONGC officials. MEIL is set to deliver a total of 47 rigs to ONGC, which includes both land drilling rigs and workover rigs, across various states in India. These cutting-edge rigs are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing India’s oil and gas production capabilities, crucial for meeting the nation’s growing energy needs.
MEIL, a leading infrastructure company with a diverse portfolio across critical sectors, continues to drive innovation and contribute to India’s self-reliance and sustainable growth. Through its subsidiaries like Olectra Greentech and Megha Gas, MEIL is also making significant strides in renewable energy, electric mobility, and other key industries.
