Matel Motion & Energy Solutions has entered into a strategic partnership with Honda Power Pack Energy India (HEID) to enhance battery-swapping technology for electric vehicles in India. This collaboration aims to integrate Matel’s advanced electric powertrain systems with Honda’s swappable battery solutions, addressing key challenges in EV adoption such as range limitations and long charging times.
Battery-swapping technology is particularly advantageous for commercial EV operators, where vehicle downtime directly impacts revenue. The ability to quickly exchange depleted batteries for fully charged units at designated swap stations significantly improves operational efficiency. “We are excited to collaborate with Matel Motion to accelerate EV adoption in India,” said Tomohide Haraguchi, Vice President of Honda Power Pack Energy India. “Our solution is especially beneficial for B2B customers with high daily usage, helping them avoid the high costs and long-term challenges associated with larger battery capacities or fast-charging infrastructure.”
Honda, leveraging its deep expertise in lithium-ion battery technology, has already deployed a battery-swapping network in Bangalore and plans to expand to Delhi and Mumbai. As part of the agreement, Matel will ensure that its powertrain solutions seamlessly integrate with Honda’s swappable battery ecosystem. For manufacturers currently using Matel’s fixed battery systems, the transition to swappable batteries will require only minor interface adjustments, preserving the core technology.
