Maruti Suzuki India Limited has celebrated a major achievement as its Manesar facility surpasses the cumulative production of 1 crore vehicles. The first vehicle to come off the line at this milestone was the popular compact SUV, Brezza, highlighting the company’s expanding footprint in the SUV market. The Manesar plant reached this impressive mark in just 18 years, making it the quickest among Suzuki’s global manufacturing sites to achieve this production milestone.
Upon reaching this milestone, Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated, “As we celebrate this significant achievement, I would like to express my gratitude to our customers for their trust in us. I also extend my thanks to our employees, business partners, and the Government of India for their unwavering support.”
He further noted, “Achieving the 1 crore cumulative production mark at our Manesar facility highlights India’s manufacturing prowess and our dedication to the national initiative of ‘Make in India.’ Since our inception, we have maintained a strong emphasis on local component manufacturing, allowing us to build a vast supply chain within the country. Our large-scale manufacturing operations have generated direct and indirect employment for millions. Together with our supply chain partners, we will continue to work towards making the Indian automobile industry self-sufficient and globally competitive.”
The Manesar facility, which covers 600 acres, commenced operations in October 2006. Here, the company produces models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Ciaz, Dzire, WagonR, S-Presso, and Celerio. These vehicles are available in the domestic market and are also exported to regions including Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and neighboring Asian countries. Notably, the Baleno, Maruti Suzuki’s first passenger car exported to Japan, was manufactured at this facility.
