Maruti Suzuki has rolled out state-of-the-art Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Haridwar and Rishikesh as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. The new centers were inaugurated by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami. These advanced tracks aim to streamline the process of driving license testing, offering a more accurate and transparent system.

The facilities are equipped with high-resolution cameras and digital evaluation tools that assess drivers without manual oversight. This ensures strict adherence to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) while catering to both light motor vehicles and two-wheelers.

At the inauguration, Brijesh Kumar Sant, Secretary of the Transport Department in Uttarakhand, highlighted the importance of the new centers. “Our goal is to improve road safety across the state, and these new facilities are a significant step in that direction. We have worked closely with Maruti Suzuki since 2009, beginning with the launch of the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research in Dehradun. These modernized testing tracks ensure only capable drivers are granted licenses.”

The company has been operating a similar center in Dehradun since 2019, which has been recognized for its contributions to good governance and operational excellence. Rahul Bharti, a senior executive at Maruti Suzuki, noted that these initiatives help raise the standard of driver training. “We appreciate the ongoing collaboration with the Uttarakhand Government. As road safety and tourism grow in importance, the need for well-trained drivers becomes even more critical. These automated facilities help make the licensing process fair, consistent, and reliable.”

In addition to automated testing, the company also supports skill enhancement programs for commercial drivers, especially ahead of the Char Dham pilgrimage. Around 11,000 drivers have taken part in these refresher sessions, which are necessary to obtain the Green Card required for the journey through the region’s difficult terrain.

Initial data from the Dehradun facility revealed a temporary dip in pass rates after implementation—falling to 60% in FY 2019-20—but scores have since improved, reaching 69%. This trend reflects a growing level of preparedness among applicants over time.
