Maruti Suzuki to Establish New Automotive Facility in Gujarat

Maruti Suzuki India, the automobile manufacturer, has recently revealed plans for the establishment of a new manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The venture, proposed at the Vibrant Gujarat 2024 Global Summit, is set to entail a substantial investment totaling Rs 35,000 crore. This cutting-edge facility is expected to produce a notable 250,000 units per year, significantly increasing Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s annual production capacity from 750,000 units to an impressive one million units.

Maruti Suzuki, a player in the Indian automotive industry, is the subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan. Established in 1981, Maruti Suzuki has evolved into a manufacturer of compact cars, with a diverse portfolio catering to varied consumer preferences. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has launched plans to infuse approximately ₹32,000 crore into the establishment of an expansive automobile manufacturing facility in Gujarat, projecting an annual production capacity of around 1 million vehicles, according to an official statement released by the company. The envisaged plant is poised to commence operations in the fiscal year 2028-29. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is earmarking an additional investment of ₹3,200 crore to inaugurate a fourth production line within its wholly owned subsidiary, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt. Ltd. This strategic move is aimed at augmenting the production capacity specifically for electric vehicles, underlining the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable and eco-friendly automotive solutions.

This state-of-the-art facility is projected to yield an impressive 250,000 units annually, effectively augmenting Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s current yearly production from 750,000 units to an impressive one million units. The infusion of capital is strategically aimed at fortifying Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing capabilities. With this expansion, the company is poised to meet its ambitious target of achieving a production capacity of approximately four million vehicles by the financial year 2030-31. Furthermore, Suzuki Motor expressed its intent to diversify its product offerings by introducing new models of Jawa bikes, manufactured in India, to international markets. This includes plans to export these bikes to both Japan and various European countries, thereby enhancing the global footprint of Suzuki Motor and contributing to the growth of the Indian automotive industry on the international stage.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has witnessed a consistent expansion of its role as a prominent manufacturing hub, particularly in the automotive sector, as highlighted by Toshihiro Suzuki. This has culminated in India’s elevation to the status of the world’s foremost automobile hub. In a proactive response to the pressing challenge of carbon emissions, the Japanese corporation has unveiled plans to set up biogas facilities in Gujarat. These state-of-the-art plants will focus on the production of compressed natural gas, bio-ethanol, and green hydrogen, underscoring the company’s vision to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in its operations within the burgeoning Indian manufacturing landscape.

Utilizing the abundant animal resources in India, there are plans underway to initiate the production of biogas derived from cow dung in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Suzuki has already commenced the construction of four biogas plants within the state. This strategic venture aims to harness the potential of India’s extensive livestock, particularly focusing on the utilization of cow dung, to contribute to the sustainable production of biogas. The ongoing efforts signify a cooperative initiative between India and Suzuki, showcasing a commitment to environmentally friendly practices and the development of alternative energy sources.
