Maruti Suzuki India has officially commenced production at its new manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. The plant’s foundation stone was virtually laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2022. This new facility strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s production capacity alongside its existing plants in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and Gujarat (Hansalpur).

Collectively, these plants have an annual production capacity of 2.35 million vehicles. With growing demand for cars and SUVs both in India and globally, Maruti Suzuki plans to expand its production to 4 million units per year.

In its initial phase, the Kharkhoda plant will produce 250,000 units annually, with the Brezza compact SUV being the first model manufactured here. Including the production at Suzuki Motor Gujarat, Maruti Suzuki’s total capacity will reach 2.6 million units annually. Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda plant will have a capacity of 1 million units per year. Maruti Suzuki is also working on establishing another greenfield facility, also with a capacity of 1 million units annually, with a location yet to be finalized.

2024 marked a significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki India, as it became the first Indian automaker to produce over 2 million vehicles in a calendar year. The company also became the first of Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global manufacturing plants to reach this achievement.

The 2-millionth vehicle, an Ertiga MPV, was produced at the company’s advanced facility in Manesar, Haryana. Nearly 60% of the vehicles were produced in Haryana, while 40% were made in Gujarat. The top five models manufactured during this period were the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, Wagon R, and Brezza.

Established in 1981 as a joint venture between the Indian government and Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation, the company has played a pivotal role in revolutionizing India’s automotive landscape. Known for its fuel-efficient, reliable, and affordable vehicles, Maruti Suzuki offers a wide range of models, from hatchbacks like the iconic Maruti 800 and Alto, to sedans, SUVs, and electric vehicles.

With a vast network of dealerships and service centers across the country, Maruti Suzuki has built a strong customer base. The company is also focused on adopting new technologies, enhancing safety standards, and driving sustainability through innovations like hybrid and electric vehicle models. Maruti Suzuki continues to be a significant contributor to India’s automotive industry.
