Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, has achieved a remarkable milestone of exporting 3 million vehicles globally. The landmark achievement was part of a shipment of 1,053 units, which set sail from Gujarat’s Pipavav port. The consignment included popular models like the Celerio, Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dzire, and S-Presso.

Maruti Suzuki began its export journey in 1986, with the first major shipment of 500 cars dispatched to Hungary in 1987. It took the company until FY 2012-13 to cross its first million in exports, followed by the second million in FY 2020-21. The jump from 2 million to 3 million exports, however, was completed in just three years and nine months, marking the fastest milestone in its export history.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, hailed the achievement as a testament to India’s manufacturing excellence and the global appeal of Indian-made vehicles. He credited the Indian government’s supportive trade policies for facilitating this growth and noted that Maruti Suzuki accounts for 40% of all passenger vehicles exported from India, reinforcing its position as the country’s leading vehicle exporter. Takeuchi also highlighted that the company’s export volumes have tripled in the last four years, driven by the quality, safety, and advanced technology of its vehicles.

To meet rising global demand, Maruti Suzuki plans to further expand its export portfolio, targeting 750,000 units by FY 2030-31. Between April and October of FY 2024-25, the company exported 181,444 units, a 17.4% increase over the same period last year.

With 17 models exported to nearly 100 countries, including key markets in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, Maruti Suzuki continues to strengthen its presence on the global stage. Popular export models include the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire, and S-Presso.

Established in 1981 as a joint venture between the Indian government and Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation, the company has played a pivotal role in revolutionizing India’s automotive landscape. Known for its fuel-efficient, reliable, and affordable vehicles, Maruti Suzuki offers a wide range of models, from hatchbacks like the iconic Maruti 800 and Alto, to sedans, SUVs, and electric vehicles.

With a vast network of dealerships and service centers across the country, Maruti Suzuki has built a strong customer base. The company is also focused on adopting new technologies, enhancing safety standards, and driving sustainability through innovations like hybrid and electric vehicle models. Maruti Suzuki continues to be a significant contributor to India’s automotive industry.
