Maruti Suzuki India Ltd announced on Wednesday that it has signed a new agreement with the transport department of Uttar Pradesh to implement automation at 12 additional driving license test tracks across the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the driving license issuance process and improve road safety in the region.

Previously, five driving test tracks had already been automated under an earlier memorandum of agreement established in December 2023. The expansion of this project reflects a strong commitment from Maruti Suzuki to support the state government’s initiatives in automating key processes related to vehicle operation and safety.

The twelve new tracks set for automation are strategically located in various districts, including Aligarh, Azamgarh (with two tracks), Basti, Bareilly, Gonda, Jhansi, Meerut, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, and Pratapgarh. These tracks will facilitate testing for various vehicle categories, such as two-wheelers, light motor vehicles (LMV), and heavy motor vehicles (HMV). This diverse range of vehicle testing ensures that the automation initiative addresses the needs of different driver categories within the state.

Dayashankar Singh, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Transport in Uttar Pradesh, emphasized the positive impact of this automation project. He noted that Maruti Suzuki had successfully completed the automation of test tracks in several major cities earlier this year, including Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Prayagraj, and Varanasi.

Singh highlighted that the automation of the driving license testing process would not only make it more scientific and transparent but also significantly enhance the efficiency of the system. His remarks underscored the initiative’s potential to improve road safety and contribute to reducing accidents on Uttar Pradesh’s roads.

In line with these goals, Rahul Bharti, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, commented on the collaboration with the UP government. He stated that both parties aim to streamline and enhance the automation of the evaluation process involved in issuing driving licenses. Bharti expressed confidence that the transition to automated testing would lead to a transformative change in the driving license acquisition process.

By ensuring that only qualified candidates receive driving licenses, this initiative is expected to contribute to a reduction in road accidents. The new automated driving test tracks will be equipped with high-definition cameras and a comprehensive integrated IT system, ensuring that the entire testing process is conducted in a fully computerized and transparent manner.

This advanced technological integration represents a significant step toward modernizing the way driving licenses are issued in Uttar Pradesh.
