Mahindra & Mahindra, the world’s largest tractor maker by volume, showcased a comprehensive range of alternate-fuel tractors and advanced farming technologies at Agrovision 2025 in Nagpur. The showcase was attended by Agrovision Nagpur’s Patron, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, and Chief Guest Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development.
Mahindra used the event as a platform to showcase its newest line of sustainable tractor technologies, marking another major stride in cleaner farm mechanisation. The highlight was a series of advanced powertrain solutions tailored to support India’s transition to environmentally responsible agriculture.
The first introduction was a CNG/CBG tractor built on the Yuvo Tech+ architecture. Engineered to run on Compressed Natural Gas, Compressed Biogas, or a mix of diesel and CNG, this model offers flexibility for farmers who want lower emissions without sacrificing performance.
Alongside this, Mahindra presented its ethanol flex-fuel engine, designed to operate on ethanol made from sugarcane, maize, crop residue, and various agricultural by-products. This engine taps into renewable, farm-generated resources, reducing dependency on traditional fuels and contributing to a more circular rural economy.
The company also revealed its electric tractor developed on the lightweight Mahindra OJA global platform. This tractor promises decreased operating expenses, enhanced torque delivery, high energy efficiency, and rapid charging—making it suitable for multiple farm tasks throughout the day.
All three innovations are the result of extensive R&D efforts at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The centre’s deep capabilities in powertrain engineering and next-generation engines have shaped these solutions, reinforcing Mahindra’s position as a frontrunner in sustainable agricultural technology.
Speaking at the unveiling, Veejay Nakra, President – Farm Equipment Business at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, emphasised the company’s mission to accelerate India’s move toward alternative-fuel farming. He noted that the showcase at Agrovision 2025 aligns with the nation’s long-term ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
India’s journey to a low-carbon agricultural sector will depend on the widespread adoption of emerging fuel technologies such as CNG, electricity, ethanol, CBG, biofuels, and isobutanol. These energy pathways are expected to shape the farms of the future by lowering pollution and enhancing resource efficiency.
Mahindra has played a major role in this shift by rolling out accessible and practical innovations for farmers. Over the years, the company has tested and demonstrated multiple tractors powered by clean, alternative fuels—aimed at cutting emissions and reducing the day-to-day running costs of agricultural operations.
At Agrovision 2025, Mahindra offered deeper insights into its alternate-fuel portfolio. The CNG/CBG and dual-fuel tractor variants deliver strong power, lower fuel expenses, and compatibility with renewable biogas. The ethanol flex-fuel engine provides dependable output while supporting farmers with improved fuel flexibility and reduced emissions.
The electric tractor rounds out the lineup with its quiet operation, high torque, long range, and adaptable charging options, including fast charging. Alongside these innovations, the display also included an extensive selection of Mahindra and Swaraj diesel tractors in 2WD and 4WD formats, reaffirming the company’s commitment to both sustainability and performance.
