Mahindra Susten, the clean-tech division of the Mahindra Group, has achieved a significant milestone by receiving approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term emissions reduction targets. This approval highlights Susten’s commitment to sustainability and its role in driving a cleaner, greener future.

The SBTi, a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and WWF, sets standards for companies aiming to reduce their climate impact. It independently evaluates corporate targets to ensure they align with the latest climate science. Mahindra Susten’s targets include a 51.8% reduction in absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by FY30, compared to the FY21 baseline.

Additionally, the company aims for a 51.6% reduction in scope 3 GHG emissions per megawatt peak (MWp) over the same period. These ambitious targets align with the Paris Agreement’s climate goals of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, reinforcing Mahindra Susten’s role in combating climate change.

Deepak Thakur, MD & CEO of Mahindra Susten, stated, “Our sustainability journey is a core priority. Securing SBTi approval reinforces our commitment to aligning our growth with global climate objectives and advancing clean energy solutions.”

Susten has already made strides toward sustainability, achieving 100% water positivity by replenishing more water than it consumes and earning a Zero-Waste-to-Landfill certification for its 1.5 GWp solar portfolio. The company has also focused on enhancing its supply chain’s resilience by evaluating the ESG practices of key suppliers. Going forward, Mahindra Susten aims to set a global standard for renewable power generation, emphasizing operational excellence and transparency.

Mahindra Susten, a renewable energy platform within the Mahindra Group, is a leader in the solar energy sector. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Mahindra Susten’s portfolio includes over 4 GWp of completed projects and more than 3.2 GWp of renewable energy projects in development across India. The company continues to push forward with its mission to revolutionize the energy landscape with clean and efficient renewable power.
