Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors Achieve Record Patent Approvals in FY24

Indian automotive giants Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors have achieved a significant milestone by securing a record number of patent approvals for innovative product and process developments in the fiscal year 2023-24.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has reported its best-ever performance with 674 patent approvals, while Tata Motors witnessed the grant of 333 patents during the same period. These patent approvals underscore the commitment of both companies towards driving innovation and advancing technology in the automotive sector.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director & CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra, highlighted the company’s dedication to staying future-ready through substantial investments in research and development (R&D). M&M’s focus on innovation has resulted in a total of 1,185 patents across various geographies, with 193 patent applications awaiting approval as of March 31, 2024. The company has filed a cumulative total of 2,212 patent applications to date, covering a diverse range of functions including powertrain, vehicle mechanical systems, electronics, manufacturing processes, electric tractors, and advanced engineering.

Similarly, Tata Motors achieved its highest-ever grant of 333 patents in FY24, bringing its total tally of granted patents to over 850. The company also filed 222 patents and 117 design applications during the fiscal year, marking the highest number in its history. Tata Motors’ patent filings address key automotive megatrends such as connectivity, electrification, sustainability, and safety, covering various vehicle systems including powertrain, suspension, brakes, and emission control.
