Mahindra & Mahindra today announced a significant expansion of its intellectual property portfolio, underscoring a decade-long commitment to research, development, and indigenous innovation aligned with the Government of India’s Make in India vision. Over the past ten years, the company has achieved a twentyfold increase in patents granted—from just 56 cumulative patents as of FY2016 to an impressive 1,334 patents by the end of FY2026. This milestone reflects sustained investments in advanced engineering, product development, and future-ready mobility and agricultural solutions.

As of March 2026, the company has filed a total of 2,728 patent applications, highlighting a robust innovation pipeline. Notably, the conversion rate of applications to granted patents has improved dramatically—from 8 percent in FY2016 to over 65 percent for applications submitted during the last decade. This sharp rise demonstrates stronger research quality, improved processes, and enhanced technical capabilities across the organization.

Of the total patents granted, approximately 60 percent are attributed to the automotive segment, while 40 percent relate to the farm equipment business. This balanced distribution reinforces Mahindra & Mahindra’s leadership across both mobility and agriculture sectors. The portfolio also includes contributions from its electric mobility arm, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd., reflecting the group’s focus on sustainable transportation solutions.

The company’s growing intellectual property base has enabled the development of advanced technologies and enhanced user experiences, strengthening its competitive position in domestic and global markets. It also signals a deeper integration of innovation into core business strategy.

In addition to patent achievements, Mahindra & Mahindra has received multiple recognitions for innovation excellence over the past year. These include honors at the CII IP Awards for Best Patent Portfolio, inclusion among India’s Top 50 Innovative Companies 2025 by the CII Innovation Awards, the CII National Award for Industry-Academia Partnership, the Questel IP Excellence Award, and recognition at the CMO Asia Awards 2025.
