Mahindra Joins Hands with Vector Informatik to Develop Advanced Electric SDV Platform

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra, which achieved a record-breaking annual SUV sales figure of 528,460 units in 2024 (a 22% YoY increase), has accelerated its push into the electric vehicle market with the launch of its cutting-edge BE 6 and XEV 9e models. These zero-emission SUVs showcase the company’s groundbreaking Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform, MAIA – Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture.

To address the growing complexity of SDVs, Mahindra partnered with Vector Informatik, a global leader in embedded systems and automotive digitalization with over 35 years of expertise. This collaboration focused on creating a future-ready SDV architecture, covering critical aspects like network design, over-the-air (OTA) updates, cybersecurity, back-end systems, and advanced testing methods such as Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL).

The project required a complete overhaul of Mahindra’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Domain Architecture while integrating existing software components. Workshops in Stuttgart and India facilitated collaboration between Mahindra, Vector, and other stakeholders to align strategies and define a clear development roadmap.

Within just one year, the partnership delivered a robust platform featuring Ethernet as the network backbone, interconnecting three HPCs and three zonal ECUs. The foundation for the HPCs was built using MICROSAR Adaptive for safety-critical functions, complemented by Android for infotainment systems. Vector’s diagnostic tools and communication solutions ensured seamless integration of the Android platform with vehicle systems.

Vector provided embedded software, pre-integrated stacks, and testing tools, equipping Mahindra and its suppliers to efficiently tackle the complexities of SDV development. This effort optimized the network architecture for future scalability and established a framework for easy integration of new applications and updates.

Dr. Matthias Traub, President and Managing Director of Vector Informatik, highlighted the success of the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of mutual trust and shared commitment in delivering innovative solutions.

R. Velusamy, President of Automotive Technology & Product Development at Mahindra & Mahindra, lauded Vector’s expertise in creating the MAIA platform, a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and adaptability in the evolving mobility landscape. This partnership marks a significant step in Mahindra’s journey to redefine electric mobility, leveraging cutting-edge technology and collaborative innovation to shape the future of the automotive industry.
