Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML), a frontrunner in the electric commercial vehicle sector in India, has officially launched the Mahindra ZEO, an electric small commercial vehicle (SCV). Targeting the increasing need for urban logistics solutions, the ZEO comes in two variants with prices starting from ₹7.52 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).
The name ZEO stands for “Zero Emission Option,” highlighting Mahindra’s dedication to sustainable transport solutions. Known primarily for its electric three-wheelers, MLMML is now venturing into the four-wheeler SCV market with the ZEO, aiming to electrify the sub-2 tonne category. The company claims that users could save up to ₹7 lakh over a seven-year period compared to conventional diesel SCVs.
Equipped with a high-voltage architecture exceeding 300 V, the ZEO enhances energy efficiency, range, and charging speed. It features an advanced electric motor that delivers 30 kW of power and 114 Nm of torque, alongside a 21.3 kWh liquid-cooled battery for dependable performance. The vehicle boasts a top speed of 60 km/h and a payload capacity of up to 765 kg, featuring a spacious 2,250 mm cargo box to suit various business applications.
In terms of performance, the ZEO provides a real-world driving range of up to 160 km, supported by regenerative braking technology. Users can achieve a 100 km range within just 60 minutes using a DC fast charger, with several charging options available, including a standard 3.3 kW onboard charger.
The ZEO’s 32% gradeability allows it to navigate steep inclines, making it the leader in the electric cargo segment under 2 tonnes. Its automatic transmission and Creep function minimize driver fatigue in stop-and-go scenarios, while a compact turning radius of 4.3 meters ensures excellent manoeuvrability in tight urban settings. Inside, the cabin features practical elements like a dashboard-mounted transmission dial, a type-C USB charging port, and a fully digital instrument cluster.
Integrated with Mahindra’s NEMO telematics system, the ZEO offers fleet managers and drivers access to real-time information. Fleet managers can monitor performance, set geofences, and manage services, while drivers can locate public charging stations, service centers, and plan their trips using the NEMO app.
The ZEO comes with a seven-year or 1.5 lakh km warranty for the battery. Mahindra also offers two service plans, Safar and Safar Plus, which provide roadside assistance, express service, and extended warranty options.
Safety features are a key aspect of the ZEO’s design, which includes an AI-enabled camera for the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), offering lane departure warnings, pedestrian collision alerts, and driver behavior monitoring. The vehicle is also equipped with Hill Hold Assist for added stability on slopes, and both the battery and motor meet IP67 standards for water and dust resistance.
Ms Suman Mishra, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, expressed optimism about the ZEO’s ability to promote electric vehicle adoption in the small commercial vehicle market. She highlighted the vehicle’s role in reflecting the company’s commitment to innovative technologies that transform the last-mile delivery ecosystem.
This launch signifies Mahindra’s ongoing growth in the electric vehicle space, with the ZEO positioned as a potential leader in the sub-2 tonne electric vehicle category.
