In a move aimed at deepening industrial cooperation between India and Japan, Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Ltd (MIPCL)—the developer of Origins by Mahindra—and its Japanese partner Sumitomo Corporation have signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Government of Osaka Prefecture and the Osaka Industrial Development Bureau. The agreement is designed to help Japanese firms, especially those based in Osaka, explore business opportunities and set up operations in India.
Sumitomo Corporation, which holds a 40% stake in MIPCL, will act as a marketing and facilitation partner in Japan. The agreement highlights Mahindra’s dedication to encouraging foreign investment in India’s manufacturing ecosystem and promotes Tamil Nadu as a welcoming destination for global industries.
As part of this alliance, MIPCL and Sumitomo will coordinate closely with public agencies to assist Osaka-based companies planning to enter the Indian market. The support will include organizing business visits, providing local advisory services, and participating in seminars in Osaka. The Osaka authorities will help identify suitable companies and fast-track their market entry process.
India’s projected economic growth of 6.3% for FY2025, as noted by the World Bank, continues to attract global investors. Among India’s key industrial hubs, Chennai stands out due to its port infrastructure, strategic location for Southeast Asian trade, and presence of key sectors such as automotive, electronics, and semiconductors. Origins by Mahindra in Chennai has already attracted six Japanese companies and is recognized for offering advanced infrastructure, a favorable regulatory environment, and long-term business support.
This partnership aims to further these efforts by creating customized support systems for incoming businesses. With strong local knowledge, MIPCL will assist companies in navigating permissions, securing land, accessing utilities, and expanding their operations efficiently.
Amit Kumar Sinha, MD & CEO of Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd, said, “This alliance supports our vision of building next-generation industrial environments that align with India’s growth story. It also demonstrates how effective collaboration between government and industry can create lasting economic impact.”
Vikram Goel, Chief Business Officer (Industrial), Mahindra Lifespaces, added, “Our engagement with Osaka Prefecture is a significant step in attracting international players through our fully integrated industrial parks. Origins by Mahindra offers the complete ecosystem international firms look for—from readiness to operate to regulatory support.”
The cooperation agreement symbolizes a shared commitment to supporting Japanese industrial expansion in India and underscores Mahindra’s ongoing mission to attract high-quality, global manufacturing to the country.
