Magna has secured a significant contract with a European automaker to supply its advanced Dual Clutch Transmission Eco (DCT Eco) system, aimed at reducing emissions in various vehicle models worldwide. This marks the first large-scale order for Magna’s new DCT Eco family, designed to support both internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrid powertrains with minimal adjustments.
While the current contract is focused on ICE vehicles, the DCT Eco can easily be adapted for hybrid systems, making it an ideal solution for automakers transitioning to hybrid models without extensive redesign costs. The transmission boasts a modular design, high efficiency, and an impressive torque-to-weight ratio, providing lower CO² emissions for compact B- and C-segment vehicles.
Diba Ilunga, President of Magna Powertrain, highlighted the adaptability of the DCT Eco as a scalable and cost-efficient solution. “As demand for hybrids grows, our DCT Eco offers a flexible pathway to hybridization without costly vehicle restructuring,” said Ilunga.
Magna’s transmission family also includes scalable options like the HDT Eco and DHD Eco, supporting a range from 48V mild hybrids up to 400V solutions. Production for the program is already underway, with South American models launched earlier this year and various European models slated for 2025.
