Macsen Labs Group has officially started the construction of its new Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing plant, located near its existing unit, Macsen Drugs, in the RIICO Industrial Area in Gudli, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. This new facility marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing capabilities to meet the growing needs of the pharmaceutical industry.
The new facility will cover an area of 25,000 square meters, making it five times larger than the current Macsen Drugs facility, which is certified by USFDA, TGA-GMP, and WHO-GMP. Designed for scalability and operational efficiency, the new plant will feature multiple production blocks capable of handling a wide range of API manufacturing processes for various therapeutic areas.
Macsen intends to invest around INR 75 crore in the first phase of the project. This phase will include the construction of two multi-story API production blocks, equipped with advanced technology and a combined reactor capacity of 100 KL, featuring both stainless steel and glass-lined reactors. Additionally, the development will include a state-of-the-art R&D center spanning 15,000 sqft and an advanced Pilot Plant, which will support pilot-scale production of APIs as well as the commercial production of low-volume, pre-clinical, and clinical trial APIs.
Achal Agrawal, Chairman and CEO of Macsen Group, highlighted plans for a specialized production line designed for corrosive chemistries using Hastelloy and Halar-coated equipment. He added, “We expect to begin production at this new site by the end of 2025. This expansion reflects our long-term strategy to grow our manufacturing presence and increase our ability to provide high-quality, cost-effective pharmaceutical products to the global market.”
