Lufthansa German Airlines is expanding its presence in India by introducing direct flights between Hyderabad and Frankfurt. Commencing on January 17, 2024, the new service connects the capital of Telangana, Hyderabad, with Frankfurt, Germany. India has emerged as the swiftest expanding major market for Lufthansa in the post-pandemic era, offering a state-of-the-art travel experience aboard its new 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Hyderabad, popularly known as the City of Pearls for its historical role in the pearl and diamond trade, has evolved into India’s fourth-largest city. It stands as an emerging hub for technology, aerospace, and the Indian pharmaceutical industry, hosting major multinational corporations such as Google, Microsoft, Boeing, and Airbus.

As a flourishing capital city in a prosperous state, both Hyderabad and the State of Telangana have played contributing roles in India’s contemporary economic success. Functioning as an investment hub and a center for innovation, Hyderabad seamlessly blends the old-world charm of its rich history with the dynamism characteristic of 21st-century India.

The Lufthansa Group is one of the comprehensive aviation conglomerates, encompassing over 300 subsidiaries and equity investments globally. Its structure comprises the Network Airlines, Eurowings, and Aviation Services segments.

As the leading European carrier in India, Lufthansa expands its direct connections from Germany to five destinations within the country, with the Hyderabad-Frankfurt route being the latest addition to its global network. India emerges as the fastest-growing major market for Lufthansa post-pandemic, surpassing pre-crisis capacity levels.

According to George Ettiyil, Senior Director – South Asia, Lufthansa Group, he mentioned that with the introduction of the new Hyderabad-Frankfurt service, Indian passengers are now offered 64 weekly flights to Lufthansa’s hubs in Europe, providing onward connections to the largest network on the European continent.

Mr Ettiyil highlighted that the capacity to India has increased by 14% relative to 2019, making it the fastest-growing major market for Lufthansa. With the recent launches of Bangalore-Munich and Hyderabad-Frankfurt services in the past three months, he emphasized the recognition of South India’s growing relevance and demonstrated the strong overall importance of India to the Lufthansa Group.

With a legacy spanning over 60 years and more than 700 employees in India, Lufthansa remains steadfast in playing a pivotal role in India’s ongoing growth narrative. The new service not only underscores Lufthansa’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art travel experiences aboard its new 787 Dreamliner aircraft but also strengthens the ties between Hyderabad and Europe.
