Lubrizol Corporation, a global leader in specialty chemicals, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Polyhose India Pvt Ltd, a diversified industrial conglomerate, to set up a medical manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. This collaboration aims to establish the state as a key player in the medical technology sector.
The new facility, located near Chennai, will produce high-quality medical tubes for critical applications such as neuro-vascular and cardiovascular treatments. Senior officials from both companies met with the Minister for Industries TRB Rajaa and government representatives to finalize the agreement at the Secretariat.
Mr Rajaa expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership in a social media post, stating that “It was a privilege to be part of the MoU signing between Lubrizol and Polyhose for a significant collaboration in the MedTech sector. This partnership, with an investment of approximately ₹200 crores, will focus on producing high-quality medical tubing for critical applications, including neurovascular and cardiovascular treatments, as well as intravenous catheters, hemodialysis tubes, central venous catheters, ureteral stents, brain stimulation, and more.”
Such collaborations are essential in our efforts to establish Tamil Nadu as a leading MedTech #manufacturing hub, capitalizing on our expertise in electronics, engineering, and healthcare.
The facility will cover 8,000 square feet and focus on producing specialized medical tubes for critical healthcare procedures. Expected to break ground in 2025, it is slated to begin operations in 2026, creating approximately 200 new jobs.
Lubrizol’s President and CEO, Rebecca Liebert, highlighted India’s significance to the company, contributing around 10% to Lubrizol’s global revenue. She also mentioned that India will be the third location, after the United States and Europe, to produce high-quality medical tubing for the company.
This investment will allow Lubrizol to expand its local production of medical tubing by fivefold to meet growing domestic demand. The partnership leverages Lubrizol’s expertise to support both local and international customers with tailored product designs, reliable supply, and fast technical assistance. Polyhose India’s Managing Director, Shabbir YJ, emphasized the importance of Tamil Nadu’s growth and the opportunity to push industry standards forward, creating new growth avenues for both companies.
