Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Monday that its Digital Energy Solutions (DES) division, part of the Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business, has been awarded the task of developing and implementing Energy Management Systems (EMS) for regional and state load dispatch centers across South India.

The project will see the installation of EMS and related software in 12 control rooms. These systems will support both main and backup configurations for the Southern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (RLDC) and the State Load Dispatch Centers (SLDC) of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Puducherry, as per a regulatory filing by the company.

L&T DES will employ its proprietary L&T-Spark-CRIMTM (Control Room Integration Middleware) platform to integrate substation data. The upgrade will allow real-time monitoring and control of electricity flow in the transmission network, using advanced power system applications supplied by a leading OEM.

In addition to its work in India, L&T DES has secured another mandate to upgrade power and transmission control rooms in the western United States. This project involves the configuration of over 15 EMS hosts and deploying advanced applications to monitor and manage real-time energy flow, with the goal of enhancing grid reliability.

L&T highlighted that it is already handling several advanced grid modernization projects in India, including upgrades to National and Regional Transmission Asset Management Centers, which encompass 13 control rooms and integrate 270 EHV transmission substations. The company is also working on implementing advanced distribution management systems in Mumbai and Vadodara.

T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director and Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at L&T, emphasized the company’s commitment to using technology for sustainable growth and supporting the data-driven transformation of its clients.
