Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Heavy Engineering division has dispatched the third Steam Generator (SG) ahead of schedule for the 10 x 700 Megawatt-electric (MWe) Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) fleet program. This achievement marks another milestone in India’s indigenous nuclear energy expansion.
The dispatch ceremony took place at L&T’s A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat, in the presence of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) Director (Technical) Rajesh V and his team. The steam generator is designated for Units 5 & 6 of the Kaiga Atomic Power Station in Karnataka. L&T had previously set a global benchmark by delivering the first SG within just 33 months.
Anil V Parab, Whole-time Director & Senior Executive Vice President of L&T Heavy Engineering & L&T Valves, commended the teams from L&T and NPCIL for their rapid and consistent deliveries. He reaffirmed L&T’s commitment to supporting the Department of Atomic Energy’s (DAE) goal of achieving 22 GWe nuclear power capacity by 2032 and the larger vision of reaching 100 GWe by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat initiative. L&T aims to deliver 6-8 units of 700 MWe steam generators annually and actively contribute to the 220 MWe Bharat Small Reactor (BSR) program, reinforcing India’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.
