L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEG), a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Japan-based ITOCHU Corporation to establish a 300 KTPA green ammonia facility at Kandla, Gujarat. As part of this collaboration, LTEG and ITOCHU will jointly develop the project, with the Japanese firm set to secure green ammonia from the facility for use as marine fuel in Singapore. This move strengthens both companies’ commitment to supporting cleaner fuel alternatives and reducing emissions in global shipping.
Speaking on the development, Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director & President at L&T, noted: “As the energy sector rapidly evolves towards sustainability, our focus remains on driving the transition through advanced technology, impactful alliances, and world-class execution. This collaboration with ITOCHU supports our broader aim of building a low-carbon future.”
Hiroyuki Tsubai, Executive Vice President and Member of the Board at ITOCHU Corporation, added
“Partnering with L&T, one of India’s most established and diversified private sector firms, significantly enhances our mission to promote low-emission ammonia as a clean marine fuel. Kandla’s strategic location and access to renewable energy make it an ideal production base for our future supply chain into Singapore.”
