LOHUM, a company from Greater Noida that recycles and repurposes battery materials, will invest ₹2,000 crore in a new plant in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. This plant will produce Cathode Active Material (CAM) for batteries.
The company has bought 65 acres of land and plans to start production in 18 months. In the first two years, they will invest ₹400 crore. This plant will supply battery manufacturers like Ola, Exide, TVS, and Amara Raja.
LOHUM has seven plants in Noida, one in Gujarat, one in Krishnagiri, and one in the UAE. The new plant will recycle 20,000 tonnes of batteries yearly to produce cobalt, nickel, and lithium. Initially, it will produce 5 to 10 GWh of CAM, with plans to scale up to 20 GWh.
The company will get incentives like the Production Linked Incentive and subsidies from the Tamil Nadu government. LOHUM is profitable and well-funded, but they did not disclose financial details. An IPO is also a possibility.
Founded six years ago, LOHUM has grown from a startup to the only company with an in-house system for battery recycling, repurposing, refining, and CAM production. In March, LOHUM raised $54 million (₹450 crore) in series B funding to expand its operations and enter new markets worldwide.
LOHUM’s work in recycling lithium-ion batteries helps lower battery costs, reduce the need for mining, and improve energy security. LOHUM is an Indian company specializing in the recycling and repurposing of lithium-ion batteries.
LOHUM aims to reduce the environmental impact of battery disposal and support the growing demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage solutions. The company’s innovative approach not only helps in managing battery waste but also contributes to the circular economy by extracting valuable materials for reuse. With a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, LOHUM is playing a crucial role in advancing green technology in India and beyond.
