Lohum Cleantech, a manufacturer and recycler of lithium-ion battery packs, announced a partnership with US-based ReElement Technologies and American Metals to establish a lithium-ion battery materials processing facility in the US. The joint venture will involve a $30 million investment.
The plant, with a capacity of 15.5 GWh, will focus on battery recycling, repurposing, and the production of critical materials. It is expected to support over 315,000 electric vehicles annually, with potential for future growth depending on feedstock availability. The facility is also set to create 250 green jobs.
The project will produce key materials for the domestic battery supply chain in the US, contributing to the country’s growing electric vehicle ecosystem. Initially, operations will be based at the Marion Advanced Technology Center in Indiana, with plans for future expansion.
Lohum’s Founder and CEO, Rajat Verma, expressed confidence in the partnership, emphasizing its role in building strong supply chains for critical materials in the US. Mark Jensen, Chairman of American Metals and ReElement Technologies, highlighted the collaboration’s potential to combine expertise in lithium-ion battery recycling and refining, ensuring a steady supply of high-purity lithium for North America’s battery manufacturing needs.
