Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has secured a seven-year US government contract worth up to $53.86 billion, lifting the total value of its multiyear PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) production agreement to $58.62 billion. The latest undefinitized contract action modification supports the US Department of War’s Acquisition Transformation Strategy and is aimed at significantly increasing production of PAC-3 MSE interceptors. The award follows a $4.7 billion first-year contract announced in April.
The multiyear agreement is expected to help Lockheed Martin triple PAC-3 MSE production capacity by the end of 2030, strengthening the company’s position in the missile defence market and providing greater visibility for its munitions business. The production ramp-up will also expand employment at Lockheed Martin’s Camden, Arkansas, facility, where the company conducts final assembly of PAC-3 MSE interceptors. The workforce is expected to increase by around 50%, from approximately 1,200 employees to about 1,850.
Michael P Duffey, Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment, said the agreement provides the defence industry with greater long-term demand visibility to expand supply chains and increase production. Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Jim Taiclet said the company was increasing investment, hiring and facility upgrades to meet the government’s accelerated procurement requirements.
PAC-3 MSE is a key component of US and allied integrated air and missile defence systems. Rising demand from the United States and international customers has prompted Lockheed Martin to expand production and manufacturing capacity. The latest award is the company’s second major multiyear contract under the Department of War’s new acquisition model. It follows a $35 billion seven-year contract announced in June to accelerate production of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors.
Lockheed Martin is also planning to invest $8 billion to $9 billion through 2030 to modernise more than 20 US facilities and expand munitions production. The company has begun work on new facilities in Troy, Alabama, and Camden, Arkansas, to support increased production of missile defence systems.
The PAC-3 MSE programme provides Lockheed Martin with substantial long-term production visibility as demand for advanced missile defence systems increases. The company said the interceptor has demonstrated its capabilities in operational environments, including missions supporting US and allied forces.
