Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has completed its acquisition of Ultra Maritime, a global defence company specialising in advanced undersea warfare and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) technologies for allied naval forces. The acquisition strengthens Lockheed Martin’s maritime defence portfolio by expanding its capabilities in sonar systems, underwater threat detection and other mission-critical technologies.
Ultra Maritime develops and delivers a broad range of systems for naval operations, including sonobuoys, towed sonar arrays, hull-mounted sonar, torpedo defence systems, radar solutions, electronic warfare technologies and autonomous maritime sensing platforms. Its portfolio supports allied naval forces in detecting, tracking and responding to undersea threats across increasingly complex maritime environments.
The integration of Ultra Maritime’s technologies and international presence is expected to complement Lockheed Martin’s existing capabilities and broaden its ability to deliver sonar solutions for next-generation maritime platforms. The expanded portfolio will support the evolving operational requirements of allied customers seeking advanced systems to protect naval vessels, crews and maritime assets.
“Securing the undersea domain starts with giving sailors the tools and confidence to find, track and deter threats that put ships and crews at risk,” said Stephanie C. Hill, President of Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems. She described the acquisition as a commitment to bringing together technology, capabilities and personnel to address growing global demand for undersea warfare solutions.
Undersea warfare remains a critical component of modern naval operations, with advanced sensing and detection technologies playing an important role in maritime security. By combining Ultra Maritime’s specialised ASW products with Lockheed Martin’s broader defence technology capabilities, the company aims to strengthen its ability to support allied naval forces with integrated solutions for current and emerging operational challenges.
Ultra Maritime will be aligned under Lockheed Martin’s Rotary and Mission Systems business area. The integration is intended to bring the acquired business’s expertise and product portfolio into the company’s established defence systems organisation while expanding the range of maritime technologies available to customers.
The acquisition also reinforces Lockheed Martin’s focus on developing advanced defence capabilities that help allied forces maintain operational readiness and respond to evolving security requirements. Ultra Maritime’s experience in sonar, acoustic sensing and underwater defence systems adds depth to the company’s maritime technology offering.
By bringing together complementary engineering expertise, specialised systems and international customer relationships, Lockheed Martin aims to strengthen its position in the undersea warfare market and support the development of next-generation naval capabilities.
