Lanxess has undertaken significant steps to align its operations with sustainability goals. The company aims to make its entire value chain climate-neutral and has expanded its portfolio of sustainable products in 2023. Notable examples include the adjustment of the raw material base for the plasticizer Mesamoll to include 30 percent sustainable raw materials. Sulfur carrier additives under the Additin brand are now derived from locally sourced renewable raw materials.
The Flavors & Fragrances business unit also plans to introduce sustainable product variants for its complete portfolio, including flavors, fragrances, preservatives, and animal nutrition products. Products labeled under “Scopeblue” are based on over half renewable raw materials or boast a carbon footprint less than half that of comparable products made from conventional raw materials.
Lanxess has developed the “Product Carbon Footprint Engine” to automatically calculate the carbon footprint of Lanxess products, taking into account various factors such as greenhouse gas emissions during production, raw material-specific emissions, energy consumption, and transportation-related emissions. The tool follows the cradle-to-gate approach and has received certification from TÜV Rheinland.
