L&T Construction announced that its Railways Strategic Business Group had secured a substantial contract to construct Phase 2A of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Project (Contract Package CP205) for MRT Jakarta. This project will be executed through L&T’s longstanding Japanese partner, Sojitz Corporation.

L&T Construction, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Limited, is a leading construction company in India. With a rich history spanning over eight decades, L&T Construction has established itself as a pioneer in the field, known for its innovative solutions and commitment to quality.

The company offers a wide range of construction services, including building and factories, transportation infrastructure, heavy civil infrastructure, power transmission and distribution, water and renewable energy projects. L&T Construction is known for its expertise in project management, engineering, procurement, and construction, delivering world-class projects that have a lasting impact on communities and the environment.

Notably, this contract represents L&T’s first EPC Railway Systems Order in the ASEAN region. The Jakarta MRT Phase 2A involves extending the existing Jakarta MRT Line from Bundaran HI to Kota, covering a total distance of approximately 12.5 km and including 7 underground stations.

L&T Construction has announced that the project entails acquiring and delivering several systems across different areas, following a design and build approach, which also includes overall system integration. The project encompasses trackworks, overhead contact systems, substation systems, power distribution systems, signaling systems, telecommunication systems, SCADA facilities, platform screen doors, and modifying equipment at existing OCCs, stations, and train sets (Phase-1).

L&T provides comprehensive Design-Build/EPC solutions for Railway Projects, offering a single point of responsibility covering design, engineering, supply, project planning, quality control, and execution. Currently, L&T is actively engaged in executing integrated railway systems projects for Mauritius LRT and Dhaka Metro.

With several railway projects on the horizon, the ASEAN region is poised for significant development over the next decade. The recent boost in infrastructure budgets by governments in these countries reflects their ambitious plans to expand urban rail systems. Additionally, investors are increasingly interested in the region due to its promising growth opportunities.

This recent order win in Jakarta will not only strengthen L&T’s presence in the ASEAN region but also position it to secure more such orders in the future. As per the company’s classification, significant orders fall within the range of Rs 1000 crore to Rs 2500 crore, while large orders range from Rs 2500 crore to Rs 5000 crore. Major orders are in the bracket of Rs 5000 crore to Rs 7000 crore, and orders classified as mega are valued at above Rs 7000 crore.
