Kobelco to Launch R&D Facility at Sri City Plant

Kobelco Construction Equipment India, a part of Kobelco Construction Machinery Co. Ltd., is set to open a new Research and Development center at its Sri City manufacturing plant, positioning India as a central hub for both production and innovation for the Japan-based company. The plant, located around 90 km east of Chennai in Andhra Pradesh, produces hydraulic excavators. The company recently achieved a significant milestone by manufacturing its 20,000th excavator at this facility.

This factory focuses on hydraulic excavator production with an annual capacity of 3,000 units, catering to the domestic market and exporting to 16 countries. With a market share exceeding 25%, the company maintains its leadership in the hydraulic excavator sector.

The upcoming R&D center at Sri City will focus on advancing technology and driving product innovation. According to the company, the facility will play a crucial role in developing cutting-edge engineering solutions, customizing products for diverse market needs, and reinforcing India’s role as a major manufacturing and innovation hub for Kobelco.
