Kioxia Corporation, a global leader in memory solutions, has introduced its KIOXIA CM9 Series PCIe® 5.0 NVMe™ SSDs, marking a significant advancement in enterprise storage. These next-generation drives are the first to incorporate Kioxia’s 8th generation BiCS FLASH™ TLC-based 3D flash memory, featuring an innovative CMOS Bonded to Array (CBA) architecture. This technology boosts power efficiency, performance, storage density, and sustainability, while doubling the capacity per flash device.
With the increasing demands of applications like AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing, enterprises require highly efficient storage systems. The KIOXIA CM9 Series SSDs are designed to meet these needs, providing not only top-tier performance but also better power efficiency, scalability, and reduced operational costs for modern data centers.
The Kioxia CM9 Series SSDs are designed to meet the high-performance demands of modern data centers, featuring advanced technologies such as PCIe® 5.0, NVMe™ 2.0, NVMe-MI™ 1.2c, and compliance with the OCP Datacenter NVMe™ SSD 2.5 specification. These SSDs are available in both 2.5-inch and E3.S form factors, with dual-port support for enhanced reliability and redundancy. They offer two endurance configurations tailored to specific workloads: read-intensive applications with 1 DWPD (Drive Writes Per Day) and mixed-use scenarios with 3 DWPD.
In terms of performance, the CM9 Series delivers exceptional speeds, with sequential read and write capabilities of up to 14.8 GB/s and 11 GB/s respectively (measured with 128 KiB blocks at a queue depth of 32). For random workloads, they achieve up to 3,400 KIOPS at QD512 and 800 KIOPS at QD32 for 4KiB operations. Storage capacities range up to 61.44 TB in the 2.5-inch format and 30.72 TB in the E3.S version, making these SSDs a robust solution for both capacity and performance-intensive enterprise environments.
Compared to the previous generation, the new Kioxia CM9 Series offers substantial performance improvements, including a 65% increase in random write speed, 55% boost in random read, and a 95% improvement in sequential write performance. Additionally, it provides a 55% gain in sequential read efficiency and 75% better sequential write efficiency, making it an ideal solution for data-heavy applications. The CM9 Series SSDs are now available for sampling to select customers and will be showcased at Dell Technologies World, taking place from May 19 to May 22 in Las Vegas.
