Kioxia Corporation has received the IEEE Corporate Innovation Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional association. The award was presented on April 24 in Tokyo and recognizes the company’s significant contributions to electrical and electronics engineering through the development of its BiCS FLASH™ 3D flash memory technology.

The IEEE Corporate Innovation Award is a globally recognized distinction granted to organizations that have introduced technologies, products, or services with substantial impact on the advancement of electrical and electronics engineering. Since the award’s establishment in 1985, it has been conferred on leading global technology firms. Kioxia is the seventh company based in Japan to receive this honor.

Kioxia introduced its 3D flash memory architecture in 2007. The BiCS FLASH™ technology arranges memory cells vertically in a three-dimensional structure, enabling increased storage capacity through greater stacking efficiency and cost reductions via fewer manufacturing steps. This innovation has become a foundational technology in the flash memory market, supporting applications in smartphones, personal computers, and data centers—critical components of the modern digital infrastructure.

With increasing demand for advanced memory solutions driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence and data-intensive applications, Kioxia continues to invest in the development of next-generation BiCS FLASH™ technologies. The company’s research focus includes enhancing performance, lowering power consumption, and increasing storage density to address the evolving requirements of diverse sectors.

Kioxia’s corporate mission is centered on advancing memory-based technologies to support future digital ecosystems. Alongside ongoing product innovation, the company is strengthening its competitive position in the flash memory and solid-state drive (SSD) markets.

Founded as Toshiba Memory and rebranded as Kioxia in 2017 following its separation from Toshiba Corporation—the original inventor of NAND flash memory in 1987—Kioxia is a global leader in the development, manufacturing, and commercialization of flash memory and SSD solutions. The company’s technologies serve a wide range of high-density storage applications including mobile devices, automotive systems, data centers, and artificial intelligence platforms.

IEEE is recognized globally for its leadership in technology advancement, publishing, standardization, and education across a wide spectrum of engineering fields. It continues to play a pivotal role in promoting innovation for societal benefit.
