Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has announced that construction work at its Kharkhoda plant in Haryana is on track, with the first production facility expected to be operational by 2025. The company is also planning an additional greenfield site with an annual production capacity of one million units, with efforts underway to identify an appropriate location.
Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda plant will have a planned capacity of one million units per year. MSIL currently operates three manufacturing plants: two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur), with a combined annual production capacity of 2.35 million units.
To meet growing demand both in India and globally, the company is planning to expand its annual production capacity to four million units. Meanwhile, MSIL has achieved a production milestone by manufacturing two million vehicles in a calendar year for the first time in its history.
Maruti Suzuki is the only manufacturer in India to reach this milestone in the passenger vehicle segment and is the first Suzuki Motor Corporation facility globally to do so. The two-millionth vehicle, an Ertiga, rolled out from the production line at the Manesar plant in Haryana. Of the two million vehicles, around 60% were produced in Haryana and 40% in Gujarat. The top five models in terms of production for CY2024 were Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR, and Brezza.
“This achievement reflects our commitment, along with our supplier and dealer partners, to driving economic growth, supporting nation building, and making India’s automobile industry self-reliant and globally competitive,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MSIL.
