Kaynes Semicon Private Limited, a fully owned arm of Kaynes Technology India Limited, has achieved a key milestone in India’s semiconductor industry by completing and shipping 900 Intelligent Power Modules (IPM5) — a complex Multi-Chip Module (MCM) — from its cutting-edge OSAT facility in Sanand. This marks the first time such high-integration semiconductor modules have been assembled, tested, and cleared for global delivery entirely within India.

The shipment was received by Alpha & Omega Semiconductor (AOS), a leading U.S.-based power semiconductor firm headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. This landmark delivery, conducted under the framework of India Semiconductor Mission 1.0, signals the beginning of commercial MCM production in the country.

Each IPM5 module contains 17 individual dies — including six IGBTs, two controller ICs, six fast recovery diodes (FRDs), and three standard diodes — packed into a compact, high-efficiency module designed for industrial and consumer motor control applications. These modules combine power switching and control circuitry to deliver improved energy efficiency, reliability, and system integration across sectors like automation, appliances, and clean energy.

“India has moved a step closer to becoming a globally competitive semiconductor packaging hub,” said Raghu Panicker, CEO of Kaynes Semicon. “This is not just a delivery — it’s a demonstration of what Indian manufacturing can achieve. We’re proud to deliver our first commercial batch of high-complexity MCMs to AOS and to contribute to the global semiconductor supply chain.”

The successful rollout is backed by Kaynes Semicon’s high-capacity facility in Sanand, which is set to reach a peak output of 6.3 million chips per day. AOS is expected to ramp up demand to approximately 1.5 million modules per day by Q1 of FY2026-27, occupying the lion’s share of initial production volumes.

Key to the project’s timely execution was the support of Mitsui & Co., a global trading powerhouse, which helped secure vital inputs including lead frames, bonding wires, and mold compounds. Mitsui’s robust procurement and logistics network ensured a steady flow of materials necessary for uninterrupted high-volume packaging.

The IPM5 represents a major leap in India’s technological capability — transitioning from being a design and testing partner to now also hosting high-volume, high-precision semiconductor assembly. These modules, previously reliant on international facilities, are now being produced domestically with performance and quality meeting global standards. This delivery not only strengthens India’s role in the global semiconductor value chain but also boosts domestic resilience and supply chain independence — two critical goals under India’s broader tech and manufacturing roadmap.

AOS is a prominent global manufacturer of power semiconductors, offering an extensive lineup of Power MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC devices, IPMs, and power ICs. The company serves a wide range of industries — from data centers and consumer electronics to automotive and industrial control — with high-performance, energy-efficient solutions.

With operations in more than 60 countries, Mitsui is a global leader in trade and investment. The firm brings deep expertise in supply chain management, enabling large-scale tech projects through its procurement, logistics, and financial services.

Kaynes Semicon is focused on high-end semiconductor packaging, testing, and assembly. With world-class infrastructure and engineering capabilities, the company is driving India’s emergence as a serious player in the OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) space, serving global needs from a domestic base.
